Do-It-Yourself Backyard Maple Sugaring
with Tim Herd
Part 1 Tapping the Tree
You don’t need to live in Vermont, talk like a New Englander, and own a thousand lidded buckets to make maple syrup!
Any nearby maple tree will yield enough sap for you to make at least a pint of syrup to enjoy with a meal of pancakes or waffles!
Part 2 Sugaring Off
Not only is the syrup incredibly tasty, but also nutritious, organic, versatile, and derived from a sustainable, native crop – which also happens to be among the most handsome of trees!
You’ve already identified and tapped the maple trees and collected several gallons of raw sap. Now it’s time to boil and refine that sap into pure maple syrup!
